Seven Lynchburg City Schools reach full accreditation

Since 2014, Lynchburg has doubled the amount of fully accredited schools from 3 to 7. The list of accredited schools in Lynchburg includes: Bedford Hills Elementary School, Bedford Hills Elementary School, Paul Munro Elementary School, R.S. Payne Elementary School, Sandusky Elementary School, Sheffield Elementary School, T.C. Miller Elementary School for Innovation and E.C. Glass High School. The interim Superintendent Dr. Larry Massie extended congratulations to all students and staff in these schools.

Health dept. encourages everyone to get flu shot as flu season approaches

As the start of the 2017–2018 flu season approaches, the Virginia Department of Health is pushing people to get their flu shots. They encourage anyone older than six months to receive a flu shot. Flu season begins in October and comes to an end in May.

Nelson County fire department to receive over $100,000 in federal funding among others

On Wednesday, Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced that nine Virginia fire departments will be receiving federal funding, through FEMA. Funding of $1,357,959 will go to the following fire departments: The Concord Volunteer Fire Department, The Town of Chilhowie Fire & EMS, The City of Fairfax Fire Department, The Gasburg Volunteer Fire Department, The Glade Spring Volunteer Fire Department, The Kenbridge Fire Department, The Lovingston Volunteer Fire Department, The City of Newport News Fire Department and The City of Norton Fire Department. This federal funding is part of FEMA’s Assistant to Firefighters Grant Program.
