I agree with the un-bundling of iTunes but I think this particular point in your list is the reason it’s not going to happen. It needs to handle syncing iDevices from 10 years+ in the past, handling updates, handling DFUs, and it still needs to know where to go on your computer to get the media to sync to the device. At this point, you essentially have a program that does everything that iTunes does now along with 7 other apps on your computer to handle the other media types. I don’t see Apple ever going down this route (or any software company faced with the same options).
