The Exit

The exit sign barely caught my eye as I was distractingly staring at the hazy beam of light in my rear view mirror. Leaving the westside of Washington for Spokane after work, a little after 7, has it’s perks. It yields a night of solo driving in the dark — which I love because I like to sing and listen to podcasts and shit. It dramatically inspires me and I come up with all sorts of ridiculous ideas — you guys should really see my “voice recorded” notes on my phone and voice memos. And also, it brings new places to see the sunset — It’s honestly almost always in the rear view mirror, but sometimes you get lucky. Like this. In a chance that gave this photo the opportunity to be created, it landed me at Washington’s Gorge wild horse monument exit.
I veered right and pulled the car to monument’s parking lot facing south. I popped the trunk and rushed to grab set up my equipment. I always seem to never have it ready. It just looks so much more organized when everything is disassembled. I’m a sucker for aesthetics. By the time I had the wide angle lens locked in the canon body, the sun had already set behind the western hills. Damn. I opened the passenger door and let Sadie out. She stood and let the wind blow her bassethound-like ears around. I looked outward down the massive central Washington gorge and stared. The eastern hills in the distance began to emit a golden glow.
