First of all, thank you for this article from the American perspective.
My name is Dmitriy and I am originally from Russia, Moscow. My family and I moved to US when I was 15 due to terror at the time.
I’ve been living here in US for almost 20 years and what I’ve known or what I idolized about America was completely wrong and distorted. I got sucked into this consumerism and wanting more, because that’s the way of life here, chasing an American dream until you end up in the grave. I was shocked not only with the culture of ‘consuming’ but with with the whole ideology of ‘more is better and bigger is better’. I just turned into a slave working overtime just to afford my new lifestyle. Yes, that is the reality here -money is number 1 priority and you work until your hands bleed or you get depressed from the workload and end up with depression.
I miss the simple times.
