I understand that, for the customer, the fixed price stays fixed when they ask no changes to the scope. So for the him the project is “always within budget”.

Like you mentioned in the cons: it causes rework. I assume, for proper reporting purposes to your management, that you tracked the actual cost of the project? How did the actual cost ended up in perspective of the fixed budget given by the client? Above, under or on top?
