Stucco is the most popular siding style in America right now, and its popularity is growing. As a home design trend and style, stucco exteriors are greatly catching on. If you are facing stucco and siding tears down for your Calgary home, how about stucco paper and wire installation Calgary?

Here are the 3 Types of Stucco Systems to Choose From:

1-coat system: It’s a blend of cement, chemical, water, sand, and fibers. This method requires only a single application and is typically applied over the rigid foam board and lath to provide durable siding.

2-coat system: It’s used for concrete, brick, and block walls. A bonding adhesive is used on the wall instead of a metal lathe before two coats of stucco are applied.

3-coat system: It uses a mixture of sand, water, cement, fiberglass, and acrylic additives. This system uses three different layers, starting with an asphalt-infused paper, a layer of furred chicken wire, and a base layer of stucco. In the end, a finish coat is added to choose the color and create texture.

Stucco Wire:

Several different wires are used in the lathing process of stucco. Certain types are better suited for different things and knowing which type of lath to go with will make the job a whole lot easier to do.

Three Coat Stucco Wire

This particular wire is commonly used in three coat stucco systems and is a fairly strong kind of wire. It is furred, which means that it sticks off of the wall a little bit so that the stucco mix can ‘key’ behind it. You want the wire in the middle of your base coat, for the best possible installation.

One Coat Stucco Wire

This wire is a little thinner and flimsier. It’s used in one coat stucco applications and resembles the thickness and look of traditional chicken wire.

High Rib Lath

This wire lath type is intended for soffits and ceilings. The design is made to hold the plaster in placewhile minimizing the number of fallouts. It resembles expanded metal lath and is much more rigid due to the grooves that run down the length of the wire.

Expanded Metal Lath

This lath in particular has a smaller pattern in the wire itself. It allows the cement to bond it very well and is usually used for patches, transitions, and uneven surfaces.

Paperback Stucco Wire

This type of wire has the paper attached and is used for open stud applications mostly. The strand of wires runs the length of the paper and wire and is inter-weaved, connecting the two. It has atop and bottom edge that stay fit on each other’s top and overlap the paper and wire simultaneously.
