Cowboy Poetry Weekend

There’s a town in Wyoming called, Encampment. Each year, they host a Cowboy Poetry and Songwriting Weekend. It falls around the middle of July.

This year, my husband and I attended and took our RV. We parked at a local campgrounds, and headed over to free breakfasts, lunches, cooking cook-offs, beautiful ballads sung by many Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico artists with guitar. Campfire sing-a-longs until midnight were enjoyed each evening!

We met genuine, and very trustworthy folks and shared our lives, stories and laughter.

The park in Encampment, Wyoming is small but awesome enough to host over 100 people who enjoy the cowboy way of life. Everyone had their boots and hats on, often accompanied by chaps and spurs. It was certainly “our type of weekend.” Laid back and down home—clean, simple fun.

Here is a picture of a few gents singing around the campfire at night. All of the songs were originals and written by them. Some have facebook pages and actually sell their own Cd’s and perform all around the USA.

Here’s a link to hear Jim Jones’ latest song, “Texas is Burning.”

Jim is the cowboy seated in the middle!

This napkin was provided at the pancake breakfast Sunday morning before “Cowboy Church.”

We had buttermilk pancakes cooked in lard, bacon, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and strong coffee. If you’re gluten-free, this probably isn’t the event for you.

The above, little lady is Caitlyn Taussig from Kremmling, Colorado. She has the voice of an angel, and writes songs that touch the heart of a person who knows what it’s like to own and love a horse, or who is familiar with ranch life. She has an uncanny knack for “painting a picture” in your mind with her beautiful voice and songs. She works on the Taussig Ranch and her original songs are “worth a listen!”

So next year, make sure to come on down to Wyoming where hearts and minds are stirred by visions of the Old West.
