WWDC 2019

Let me build your interest to this article, This WWDC was a massive updates from apple at once for developers, users and the competitors(of-course).

I had to sharpen my pencil four times and written nine pages of A4 size full scape notes while two hours of WWDC live stream.

Apple organized special event of services in March already, if you missed the glimpse of the event here is the overview of the event.

Lets strait dig into it.

TV OS:

  • Apple TV box will get support for multiple family members. Just like Netflix, Hulu and numerous other apps for watching TV shows and movies, Apple’s own TV app will allow different family members to build different profiles of favorite shows and movies.
  • Give native support for Xbox One S and DualShock controller support.

Watch OS 6:

Watch OS Update
  • There are new tempting watch faces for Apple Watch: gradient face, digital face, California Dial, and a Solar face with a 24 hour sun path.
  • Noice App introduced, with the noise app, you’ll get information about the decibel level at concerts and other events where the noise level might be too loud and potentially damaging to your hearing.
  • Activity Trends show your progress over time and give you custom tips based on your fitness.
Cycle App
  • Cycle tracker app: for women to track their cycle on a wrist. Which is available iOS as-well. It lets you log details about your period — and get notifications about your estimated fertility window.
  • Apps like Audio books and Voice memo.
  • Calculator from which you can split the bills with friends as well.
  • AppStore for Apple watch to download apps independently from iPhone.
  • New watch bands to match new watch faces.

iOS 13:

As apple focus of performance in every release, they claim this time that Face Id will 30 % faster, AppStore apps are 60% smaller in size and 2x faster them iOS 12.

  • Dark mode was a big rummer this time. Dark mode looks pretty on built in app, they didn’t announce support for 3rd party apps yet.
  • Finally swipe to type keyboard introduced.
  • Safari, Mail and Notes get some updates, but the big rewrite is in Reminders.
  • Apple map is more refined then ever, will rollout US uers the end of 2019, and to more countries by 2020. Collections of places added. 3d views (like street view) will see now in apple maps. While long tap on any derection map will move smoothly forward. New location access permission ‘Location access just once’ added, user will have to ask for permission while use next time.
  • We will have future to sign in using Apple, authentic using Face ID. User will have option to select email from login. Email logged in will be converted in to an unique email which will store to apple server.
  • Home Kit secure video sent to the iCloud will will be encrypted and saved up-to 10 days. This space will not count in available free iCloud space. Apple now has a HomeKit-in-routers partner program.
  • Messages are more smarter now which can detect unknown numbers and display name and memoji/photo. Memoji stickers are auto generated to share with non supportive devices.
  • Portrait lighting effects and an improved editing interface in Photos, ability to rotate and filter videos. Plus a new automatic organization of your Camera Roll.
Photos with days, months and years tabs.

Airpods, Home pod and Car play:

Siri can read and reply to messages via your AirPods. Share music with friends using Airpods. HomePod will support handoff to play music from iPhone left off. CarPlay has a new dashboard with expanded partner apps.

Siri:

Neural Text to Speech (TTS) will use a new, completely software-based approach to making Siri sound more natural, particularly while reading long sentences.

Siri will use voice recognition to personalize HomePod responses for the specific user talking to her.

iPadOS: iPad now runs iPadOS

It lets you pin widgets to the home screen while swipe left edge, a better multitasking interface, multiple windows in apps with split screen.

Files in iPad

Files — Now there’s a column view in Files, more metadata and quick actions; folder sharing finally comes to iCloud Drive and you’ll be able to attach to network servers.

It adds support for USB thumb drives and the ability to import photos directly from a camera.

Desktop-class-browsing in safari will pull the desktop site resized for its display and optimized for touch input.

Drag cursor/select text by dragging the finger now, copy and past text using 3 finger gesture only, swipe to undo or redo as well.

iPas OS is so optimized to lower the Apple Pencil latency from 20 ms to 9 ms now. A new framework PencilKit added for 3rd party apps (Yes its for us, developers).

iPad keyboard can be shrink and swipe to quick type the words.

Mac Pro and Apple Pro Display XDR:

Mac Pro with Pro Display XDR screen

Apple introduced a monster Mac Mac Pro and epically bright Apple Pro Display XDR debut.

Intel Xeon processor with 8 and 28-core processor and 1.5 TB system memory. It can handle as many as four AMD Radeon Pro Vega II graphics cards, which will net you enough power to play three simultaneous streams of 8K video.

Apple is also touting a new hardware acceleration card it calls Afterburner. It’s the magic behind the Mac Pro’s ability to handle those three simultaneous streams of 8K ProRes RAW footage, which is what you get from RED and similar high-end cameras used for professional filmmaking. With the graphics card handling the video playback, you can use all those primary CPU cores to handle creative effects and other processing tasks.

There’s a new Pro Display XDR with a matching holy design on back with anti reflective mat finish display. The front has a 32-inch Retina 6K display (the world’s first), and the next level in high-dynamic range (HDR), what Apple calls Extreme Dynamic Range (or XDR).

Pro Display XDR

We can connect 6 pro display together which is 120 million pixels, display can be used as portrait mode as well.

6 connected displays, which is 120 millions pixels!

All this (Mac Pro and Pro Display) will coming this fall with price of $12k which is more then many cars available in market.

Catalina:

Complete rethink of iTunes, which is now broken out into individual Music, Podcast and TV apps.

Based on the quick preview from Apple’s WWDC keynote, the Podcast app looks a lot more useful for finding new shows, thanks to a bit of machine learning. The TV app will also finally bring support for 4K HDR video to Macs, something that was only possible with the Apple TV 4K until now.

As for other new features, macOS Catalina will be able to use iPads as secondary displays with Sidecar. That works both wired and wirelessly, and it allows you to use the tablet as a touchscreen controller for the Mac, as well. Additionally, Voice Control will let you control the operating system entirely with spoken words. And you can breathe a side of relief if you’re worried about privacy, as Apple says all of the voice processing happens on your device, instead of on the cloud.

Find My is a new app will combine Find My Friends and Find My iPhone. The idea is that Find My will be a single place to track everything, including people and Macs. It’ll be available on both iOS and macOS. The tracking works even if a device isn’t connected to Wi-Fi or a network, the company says. Macs will send a secure Bluetooth signal occasionally, which will then be used to create a mesh network of other Apple devices, so people can track their products. A map will populate of where the device is located.

Like iOS 12 Screen Time on the Mac gives users insight into how they spend time in apps and on websites, and the tools to help decide how to spend their time. Screen Time is designed for the way people use their Mac, including a new “One more minute” feature that gives users more time to save their work or log out of a game.

Last year, Apple teased a project called Marzipan, which aims to let developers port iOS apps over to OS X. Today, at WWDC, Apple announced that Marzipan is now called Project Catalyst and is built to work with Xcode developer tools. What this means for developers is that only one development team is needed to develop for the iPhone, iPad and Mac. For consumers, this means more apps on both desktop and mobile.

ARKit 3 puts people at the center of AR. With Motion Capture, developers can integrate people’s movement into their app, and with People Occlusion, AR content will show up naturally in front of or behind people to enable more immersive AR experiences and fun green screen-like applications. ARKit 3 also enables the front camera to track up to three faces, as well as simultaneous front and back camera support. It also enables collaborative sessions, which make it even faster to jump into a shared AR experience.

RealityKit was built from the ground up for AR. It features a photorealistic rendering, as well as incredible environment mapping and support for camera effects like noise and motion blur, making virtual content nearly indistinguishable from reality. RealityKit also features incredible animation, physics and spatial audio, and developers can harness the capabilities of RealityKit with the new RealityKit Swift API. Reality Composer, a powerful new app for iOS, iPadOS and Mac, lets developers easily prototype and produce AR experiences with no prior 3D experience.

With a simple drag-and-drop interface and a library of high-quality 3D objects and animations, Reality Composer lets developers place, move and rotate AR objects to assemble an AR experience, which can be directly integrated into an app in Xcode or exported to AR Quick Look.

Swift UI

Apple score a dramatic goal in last minute by announcing Swift UI.

Like Flutter Swift announce declarative syntax that makes code easer to write and understood. You can check Flutter stable version announced of 4 Dec 2018.

SwiftUI provides an extremely powerful and intuitive new user interface framework for building sophisticated app UIs. Using simple, easy-to-understand declarative code, developers can create stunning, full-featured user interfaces complete with smooth animations. SwiftUI saves developers time by providing a huge amount of automatic functionality including interface layout, Dark Mode, Accessibility, right-to-left language support and internationalization. SwiftUI apps run natively and are lightning fast. And because SwiftUI is the same API built into iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS, developers can more quickly and easily build rich, native apps across all Apple platforms.

SwiftUI is a modern UI framework that makes it fast and easy for developers to build native apps across all Apple platforms.

A new graphical UI design tool built into Xcode 11 makes it easy for UI designers to quickly assemble a user interface with SwiftUI — without having to write any code. Swift code is automatically generated and when this code is modified, the changes to the UI instantly appear in the visual design tool (Hot Reload). Now developers can see automatic, real-time previews of how the UI will look and behave as they assemble, test and refine their code. The ability to fluidly move between graphical design and writing code makes UI development more fun and efficient and makes it possible for software developers and UI designers to collaborate more closely. Previews can run directly on connected Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch and Apple TV, allowing developers to see how an app responds to Multi-Touch, or works with the camera and on-board sensors — live, as the interface is being built.
