The concept of legislating by Christian beliefs has been a debate for centuries. It is no secret that Christianity is an influential religion, and the laws of a nation often reflect the values of its dominant faith. While it is understandable why some would want to bring their faith into the lawmaking process, doing so can be incredibly dangerous.

First, legislating by Christian beliefs can lead to a decrease in religious freedom. If a law is passed that is based on a specific religion, then those who do not subscribe to the same faith may be discriminated against. For instance, if a state were to pass a law that bans abortion based on the Christian belief that life begins at conception, then those of other religions would be forced to abide by the Christian interpretation of the law. This could potentially lead to a decrease in religious freedom, as those of other faiths would be unable to follow their own beliefs on the matter.

Second, legislating by Christian beliefs can lead to an increase in discrimination. If a law is passed that is based on a specific religion, then those who do not subscribe to the same faith may be discriminated against.
