The way people communicate with each other is not immutable and changes throughout time. A couple of decades ago, phone calls were the number one choice to contact anyone. Recently, SMS and MMS were kings, and now messaging apps are on the throne.
These apps are also evolving, bringing new ways of communication to smartphone users. A very good example of this is Spray, a recent messaging app for free on iOS and Android that works in a different manner than what people are used to.

Even though people have to create an account to use Spray (users are required to login with Facebook, Twitter or their phone number), this app gives privacy a high priority — users do their shares publicly but respond privately.
Even though Spray is a very new app, it managed to, with zero marketing, reach over 30,000 users and send 80,000 messages worldwide — Spray is already being used in several events, like festivals, providing the power of a local messenger.
In addition, despite reaching the market very recently, Spray has already caught the attention of important players in the tech world. For example, Mitch Lowe, co-founder of Netflix and Redbox, has very positive comments about the app:
