Performetric Desktop App

A Project walkthrough

The Concept

The goal was to change the meta.
There were a lot of topics that were discussed in order to improve the next version of the Desktop App. The goals for this redesign were:

• Create a clean environment;
• A Human-Centered Design;
• Creation of new features like: Fatigue Notifications, Working Hours, Extra-Time and Achievements;

More than any kind of improvement on the design, there were an yelling need to create balance, a visual culture that anyone could easily distinguish. You need to receive a notification, and even with no direct reference to the company, you should be able to say “Yep… this is Performetric!”

The Idea

One of the things that had to change was the navigation. by reducing a lot of tabs and views, we only kept the one’s that were really necessary.
Thanks to this content filtering, it was possible to put all the information inside two tabs: the Fatigue Analysis and the Metrics.

A thing that became obvious is that the previous app had very detailed information. But who said that the App shouldn’t have that kind of detailed information? That’s why we’ve created this two tabs; Inside each tab you can have access to the same amount of detailed information that you had previously. The difference lies in the organization of the content.

Fatigue Analysis

The Fatigue Analysis now has the general information that is shown on four cards on the top of the desktop app and we have the detailed information on that is represented on the main graph, located at the bottom of the app.
On this view I have access to everything regarding to my work performance and my fatigue. And if I want more details, I can for example, select the category “Drawing” and I’m able to see my Keyboard and Mouse performance.

The Features

There were added a lot of features to this new version of the Desktop App.
One of the first features added is the Fatigue Notifications: instead of having only the Operative System that would notify you every time you reach the level of fatigue you choose, now you can select the widget or the desktop notification. The widget notification became something that gives the product huge possibilities. instead of having only the notification, why not use it to see your fatigue and access the app?

The Working Hours is also a very interesting feature. Imagine that you have an app that you use mostly use during your work day and on your personal computer… you’re at home at 10PM, watching Netflix with your beloved one and suddenly you receive a notification (ARGH!!) of fatigue because you’ve laid down and you’ve typing slower than usual. The app would think that you’re exhausted… With this feature you can now select the hours you start working, your lunch break and your afternoon schedule. After you leave your workplace the app won’t notify you about anything (Unless you ask for it).

Achievements

There was still something missing on the app. Something that could connect the user with the product, that would create the need to interact with. Based on that idea we picked on subjects like First Usage, General, Fatigue, Breaks and Metrics and decided to use them for a first version of the Achievements. We wanted to give the app this gamification style because we wanted people to care more about mental fatigue and about being productive. Bringing the idea of competition for the Performetric was great in order to tease with other friends and compare their performance.
