Today marks the 25th year anniversary of the very first website, created by computer scientist Sir Tim Burners-Lee — the website still exists today, as a portal of information about the world wide web (it just sounds old saying that)

In 2015, there are now over 1 billion websites on the internet, with 150 getting created every minute throughout the world and over $1 trillion being spent online.

With 7 billion people in the world and less than half of them online, the websites that exist today have transformed politics, overthrown governments, led to the invention of today’s best known global business (and disrupted many industries along the way), created many Forbes billionaires and fundamentally changed the way we interact with each other (read: Facebook)

It’s hard to imagine a world without the internet or websites. 25 years on gives you a look into the possibilities that another 25 more years could bring.

Here’s to 2016 and more websites.

Disclosure: I work for Weebly, a global platform that allows anyone to create a website, blog or online store.
