Why transfer away domain from “Network Solutions”, is something wrong with Network Solutions services?

NO

In fact, Network Solutions were providing domain registrations since 1999, if I am not wrong. And most successful business websites are with Network Solutions and everything is great there.

Then, why move away from Network Solutions?

One of the reasons to move away from one provider to another is to maintain all the domains owned by you at one place. In this case Google Domains is the winner.

Now we will see what are the steps associated to transfer the domain from Network Solutions.

1. Login to Network Solutions

2. Unlock the domain

After login, go to manage domain and you would land on the following page, where it shows that your domain is locked.

Unlock your domain

Scroll down to see a toggle switch to unlock it like the following screenshot.

And after unlocking, you might have to refresh the page to see that your domain is unlocked.

3. Request Auth Code

Now that, you have unlocked the domain, you need to request a auth code, which will be validated by both parties. In our case the Network Solutions and Google Domains.

Request Auth Code to start the process

For some domain providers this process is super fast, but in case of Network Solutions it takes bit longer. Not to worry, it is 3 days. They would send emails with the Auth Code to your registered email.

4. Got your Auth Code, open Google Domains

Now that you got your Auth Code, you can open Google Domains and select Transfer from the left sidebar.

Transfer Button

5. Now you got to enter your domain name

Enter your domain name here such as example.com without the https or the www or any subdomain.

After you enter the domain name, it shows all the information from the current provider.

As you see from the above image, the unlock information is also showing.

6. Enter Auth Code

At this point you might have received the Auth Code from the current provider and copy that and paste is as shown below.

Press Continue to move to the next step of Import web settings.

As you see in the above image, it shows a warning that, it could not find a website under that name. This is because, it is not hosted there. It is hosted in AWS. So ignore the messages and click on Continue to go to the final step.

7. Pay the new provider

In this step, you will be seeing the details of the finances and the auto renewal dates. Click on Proceed to checkout to complete the process.

After you have made the payments, you will be navigated to My domains section and you should see your domain details as follows.

So, the transfer in progress status is displayed; that means Google Domains have started the process and it would request Network Solutions to release/transfer the resources.

You might have to wait from minimum 1 hour to 5 days maximum. This process takes time.

That's it folks, thank you for reading the write up. Hope you have liked it, please follow me to get updates as soon as I publish new articles.
