Here’s the thing: you need to realize that different people will have different interpretations of the same characters and relationships. You interpret Sheith as brotherly or mentor/student. Others interpret them as friends. Neither interpretation is wrong. And the people who interpret them as friends (later becoming romantic) are not doing anything wrong. They just want to enjoy their ship in peace, but they’re constantly being demonized for it. And that goes for all these ships that are common targets of antis. The fact that you completely grazed over all the harassment and toxicity of the anti community (or “fandom police” as I prefer to call them) is frankly disgusting. I have seen fandom police bully and alienate people over ships. I’ve seen them literally bully kids into self-harming or worse over fanart of ships. In the month of October alone, I saw AT LEAST 3 or 4 accounts have to deactivate or go private because they were dogpiled after an anti called them out for “problematic” art, many of these people being survivors and/or minors. It’s absolutely horrifying. It’s unreal that you’re downplaying it and trying to paint pro-shippers as the bad guys, when most of them just want to ship their favorite characters without harassment, and when most of them are considerate and encourage the use of tags/warnings so people who are uncomfortable with certain content back mute and block.
Fandom is transformative, it’s suppose to be a place of fun and creativity. It’s ridiculous that fandom culture has recently believed that “what you ship or what characters you stan = your irl morals.” That’s childish thinking, that’s the mindset of a child. It’s more upsetting that people are justifying or turning a blind-eye to harassment of people who have Bad Ship because they “deserve” it. If people want to interpret a ship or character arc in a certain way, that is within their right. It’s not a crime, it’s not indicative of their character or their morals, and the belief that it does needs to stop. Their interpretation of a ship is just as valid as yours and both need to be respected (through proper tagging/warnings and “staying in your lane” and leaving each other alone like decent people).
