Daptomycin is a lipopeptide antimicrobial with activity against gram-positive organisms, including antimicrobial-resistant pathogens such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant strains.

The cyclic lipopeptide antibiotic used for the treatment of Gram-positive infections including complicated skin and skin structure infections, infective endocarditis, bacteraemia, meningitis, sepsis and tract infections. Daptomycin has distinct mechanisms of action, disrupting multiple aspects of cell membrane function and inhibiting protein with nuclear cell structure synthesis.

Some recent studies have compared daptomycin used for the treatment of vancomycin-resistant enterococcus bacteremia

  • The Daptomycin can also be successfully loaded on therapeutics to alleviate infections after bone fractures, and silver nanoparticles were incorporated in wound dressing material, especially in cases of infected wounds
