Gamification in UX. Increasing User Engagement.

I see fitness apps can be a very good example of gamification in UX and as I was reading I could relate to many features which are available today in fitbit application /website. But I am curious to know which other fields / categories of website can this be used.

Social media can be one but not be sure how well can they implement it especially on the rewarding part.
