The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will be closing its doors permanently on January 2nd, 2017. So if you haven’t had the pleasure of riding in the Hollywood Tower Hotel’s most famous maintenance service elevator, then it’s time to pack your bags, get out to Anaheim, and check-in for some 1920’s Hollywood glamour before it’s gone for good.

What Will Be Replacing Tower of Terror?

Disney has spent the better half of the last decade working on revolutionizing what used to be a lackluster California Adventure park. If you’ve visited in the past few years, you know what I’m talking about. Cars Land is stunning. Toy Story Midway Mania leaves you wanting more. World Of Color takes our breath away. Naturally, we have high expectations for Disney’s plans for our beloved Tower of Terror.

In a one-for-one swap, Disney will be trading Rod Serling and the Twilight Zone for Chris Pratt and Guardians of the Galaxy. With the recent purchases of Marvel Entertainment and Lucasfilm, it was no surprise when Disney began an aggressive move to incorporate these large investments into their theme parks around the world.

Though most of the physical ride will remain the same, you can expect a complete overhaul of the storyline and interior décor, and of course, we’ll all be looking forward to seeing some familiar faces from Guardians of the Galaxy.

There’s Still Time To Enjoy Tower of Terror!

For those of us nostalgic Tower of Terror die-hards, Disney will be throwing a sort of going away celebration to ease the parting blow. The special tribute kicks off on September 9th and includes nightly musical performances, commemorative merchandise, and specialty food and beverages. And if that wasn’t enough incentive to come see our beloved Hollywood Tower Hotel off into the lonely night, Disney threw in one last thing to solidify the experience in our memory banks for years to come.

What and When?

Between September 9th and October 31st, any guests visiting the Tower of Terror after twilight will be slapped with what the hotel is deeming “Late Check-out”. All guests riding the maintenance service elevator after twilight will be doing so in complete darkness. If you’ve experienced the ride with lights on, you understand the excitement and terror this is going to add. If you’ve never been on it, you’re in for the ride of your life.

Again, we only have until January 2nd, 2017 to enjoy one of California Adventure’s most iconic centerpieces, so start planning your trip now!
