What do YOU want?

We’ve all been to tonnes of events before, some good and some not-so-good, but what’s rare are events that allow you to make them what you want them to be.
That’s what’s different about Disrupt-Kenya: we want to make our event versatile, allowing you to mould it into what’s going to benefit you the most. Here at Disrupt-KE, we believe that all of us have something great inside us, but that the greatness has more to do with how we are unique in who we are, what we do and how we do it.

That is why we’re making this the way it is. We have multiple categories:

Disrupt Life: Life sciences, health sciences, biochemistry, pharmacology, etc.
Disrupt Matter: Physics, Chemistry, etc.
Disrupt Numbers: Mathematics, economics, finance, etc.
Disrupt Tech: Computer science, engineering, etc.

Our workshops, both at the event itself and the virtual ones, are going to span all of these areas. This is because we believe that no matter what you’re planning on specialising in, you should be able to learn and use skills from other fields to propel you further. You can choose which workshops you want to watch/attend (even though we recommend all of them) so that you have an experience that’s tailored to what makes you, you.
We don’t stop at these categories though: ideas need more than just the technical work. They need to be pitched, they need to be defended, and they need to be presented. Luckily, we’ve got workshops on all of these too!

A lot of us enter our A level (or equivalent) studies, or even university, without knowing what exactly we want to do with our lives. We might be passionate about too many things to allow us to decide, or we may not have found our calling yet. We believe that the best way to start making progress on this is to try it all out: you never know, that one thing you thought you’d never be into could be the love of your (career) life!

We want to give everyone a chance to explore as much as you possibly can. Just because we’re from Kenya shouldn’t mean that we have less exposure or fewer opportunities than people from more developed countries. One thing’s for sure: we’ve got potential, and no one can take that away from us.

In our virtual workshops, you’ll get to listen to people working at the most amazing organisations around the world, PhD students carrying out groundbreaking research and professors from the world’s best universities. You’ll learn things from different perspectives and view-points, and have a chance to use our Forums to ask questions.

During our event, we’ll have a Hackathon where you’ll get to put all of these things that you have learnt together with that uniqueness inside of you to come up with stuff that’s great, and stuff that’ll change the world.

We’ll keep you updated on further details, but for now I’ll leave you with this:
Even if you have all the opportunities in the world, you’re going nowhere until you grab at them and make them shape you into who you want to be.
