Why Higher Education is a Joke
The system is flawed.
We all know this, yet everyone still supports the idea that formal education is the only path for career growth.
But, it’s not.
In my case, pursuing a formal education is actually restricting the development of my education.
You might be thinking to yourself, “Wow! Chase sure has lost it here.” Or, “What is Chase talking about? He’s just F.O.S.”
As I was growing up, going to college wasn’t an option, it was an obligation. From my parents to my grandparents to the guidance counselors at my school, going to college to get a degree was considered the “golden path.”
Yeah, most people can relate to this. Why? Because on paper, this seems like a great idea. So, I followed the advice of those who I looked up to and enrolled in college.
After three years of being a full-time student, I can honestly say that this whole “higher education” thing is a complete sham.
I believe, Peter Thiel, said it best,
“Higher education holds itself out as a kind of universal church, outside of which there is no salvation. Critics are cast as heretics or schismatics endangering the flock. But our greatest danger comes from the herd instinct that drives us to competition and crowds out difference.”
There are endless reasons as to why the system isn’t working.
However, one of the major flaws I find in the higher education system is that you’re are learning $#!+ that doesn’t matter.
For example, this morning, I was dropped from an online course because I failed to engage in the required number of discussion board entries for an online class.

After paying $1,500 for the cost of the course, and then investing 40 hours of time into the work required. My total investment in this course is ~$5,500.
(40 hours x $100(billable hourly rate at Dittmer Development))

And do you want to know what I have to show for it? Absolutely nothing.
