YLC-8E Mobile UFH band 3D surveillance radar system

On 23rd April 2021, CETC 14th Research institute has unveiled the YLC- 8E Anti Stealth Radar system, this radar system is a UHF band 3D surveillance radar with high antenna’s.

These radars cover UHF, L, S and C bands and have the basic characteristics of 4th Generation intelligence radar, such as fully digital and advance technology system. YLC-8E is also known as the flagship of Chinese stealth radar.

YLC-8E radar can provide comprehensive intelligence information for combat command systems, intercept weapon systems and aviation units, and has strong intelligence integration and independent guidance capabilities.

It is large backbone of the radar network, YLC-8E is responsible for medium and high altitude and long range anti-aircraft alert and guidance task, realizes target search, tracking and guidance.

The radar has the advantages of excellent capabilities such as high mobility, strong anti-jamming capability, high reliability, good maintainability, etc. within 10 seconds the radar antenna array is folded or unfolded and with self- propelled chassis, the overall maneuverability is greatly enhanced with stronger livability and battlefield adaptability.

Its huge antenna’s gives it extreme high identification capability and great power and indicates its superb engineering achievement and technology. The antenna of the YLC-8E is gigantic. With its high power and cutting-edge information process technology, it can detect even the most advanced stealth aircraft. It can also detect other types of targets at long range and high definition.

14th Research Institute of CETC (China Electronic Technology Group Cooperation) displayed two types of anti-stealth radar systems, namely the flagship YLC-8E UHF-band 3D surveillance radar system. Probably The YLC-8E can detect and track aircraft more than 500km (310 miles) away as well as missile threats out to ranges of over 700 km.

CETC 14th Research Institute:

The 14th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Co., Ltd. is known as Nanjing Electronics Research Institute, this institute is the leader of China national electronics & information industry, cradle of China radar industry and founder of large-scale, new-type and high-level electronic equipment. It is a comprehensive electric system engineering research institute with international competitiveness.

The №14 Research Institute is also constantly introducing new technologies and products in response to the country’s needs. During the military parade marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the early warning aircraft of the air force echelon through Tiananmen Square, the KJ-2000, carried the institute’s early warning radar, and many more fighter jets were also equipped with the institute’s radars.

In 2016, Hu Mingchun was appointed as the director of the 14th Research Institute.

He director Hu Mingchun is more aware of the importance of “management innovation”.

He introduced star items of the research institute brought to the 2021 exhibition, including anti-stealth radars like the SLC-7

L-band 3D surveillance radar system and YLC-8E UHF-band 3D surveillance radar system as well as anti-drone radars like YLC-48 portable multipurpose reconnaissance radar.

Hu Mingchun on development of China’s radar equipment

When it comes to the development direction of China’s radar equipment in the future, Hu said it is a trend from the development of single radars to the development of radar systems. In addition, the development of electronic information technology and hardware technology will help develop radars to deliver higher performance and have stronger capabilities with smaller sizes.
With the continuous improvement of computer processing and calculation, the radar based on software technology is also expected to see a big development,

Hu said., The application and rapid development of AI will also play a very important role in the subsequent application of radar. Hu said the application of AI could turn traditional radars into intelligent ones, so that they can make new adjustments according to the environment, to accumulate experience and constantly improve their ability. AI can assist the operator’s judgment and decision, improve the operation accuracy.

CETC reviews on YLC-8E:

According to the CETC 14th institute, the unveiled radar YLC-8E radar is improved from the YLC-8B.

YLC-8E and YLC-8B radar, has long undergone qualitative changes. YLC-8E has a high degree of equipment integration, large number of large-scale integrated circuits and other technologies and designs, fewer transport units and high reliability.

The antenna vehicle adopts single-vehicle loading, with strong passing capability and fast position transfer. It adopts mechanical, electrical and liquid integration technology and collects high- precision sensing equipment to realize automatic erection and withdrawal of antenna vehicle.

In the terms of technical features, YLC-8E continues some features of YLC-8B, making full use of frequency and energy anti-stealth design, working in UHF band, adopting large phase antenna array, high power and high efficiency digital TR components to achieve long-rang early warning detection of stealth aircraft.

In addition, the anti-interference ability is strong, ensuring that it can “detect accurately” in any complex environment.
