10 Excellent Reasons Why You Should Hit the Gym

-Dixon Troyer

Let’s be honest… We all know hitting the gym is good for you, right? Whether you’re new to fitness or have been doing it for years, everyone can and should be doing it almost daily. Then why isn’t every single person doing it? Because there seems to be more excuses to not work out than motivation in getting healthy and feeling better than ever.

So what are the magic words to turn you into a 4–5 days a week fitness geek? If you need a little extra push to get out the door and into the gym, I’m here to help. Aside from looking, sleeping and feeling better, here are 10 reasons that may help to motivate you into a solid fitness routine.

1. It Produces Happiness

For real, working out can be like a happy drug. Thanks to the flood of endorphins when you workout, it can literally make us happy. If you enter the gym sad, mad, tired or uninspired, working out to a point where your endorphins kick in can get you to walk away practically a different person.

2. It Clears the Mind

The best thing to do if your mind is all cluttered and stressed is to retreat to the gym. A good sweat or workout can do wonders when you are feeling anxious. It can give you a good hour or more of clearing your mind of old and future stress and focus on the present: your workout. If you are feeling stressed, go hit the gym, or go for a hike, a run, or a bike ride. It’s like a mediation, a way to focus on the present moment and not waste mental energy worrying about things or dwelling in the past.

3. You Can Be More Active Longer

There are so many outdoor activities, adventures and great things to do in this vast world. Wouldn’t it be great to be healthy enough to tackle them? Go on a hike? Ski? Skydive? Swim in the ocean? Travel to Asia? Don’t miss out! Without a strong foundation of your health, such as fitness and wellness, the ability to do the things we want to do most in life becomes more and more difficult. And age isn’t an excuse.

4. Compliments

Being fit looks good! There’s nothing like a compliment to make your day and get you feeling good about yourself.

5. Do It For The Kids

The next generation is our future. If they are unhealthy, so will our future and the people that will be running our country, and frankly us. Your example and positive example will have a direct impact on the next generation. Let’s pass on the positive wisdom to our youth.

6. It’s Anti-Aging

We all want to feel, look and stay younger than our years, right? It’s never too late to stop the clock, and even set it back years. Exercise builds the heart, flexibility, lowers blood pressure, lowers your sugar levels, and even improves bone density. Workout now and do all the adventures you want when you are in your 70’s.

7. Connecting To Like Minded People

At 3 Elements Lifestyle, one of the beautiful benefits is the community that is naturally built. There are new friendships happening daily. I have personally made lifelong friends. The community gives a feeling of belonging and makes going to the gym more exciting. It’s a nice way to get some real human interaction, which is another healthy benefit, and more than likely will keep you coming to the gym more often.

8. Your Personal Time

Sometimes, it’s just good to get away, shut off life and just be selfish with some “Me Time.” Make that time entirely your time. A good ol’ sweaty workout is a great way to clear your mind and focus on you.

9. Increasing Your Knowledge

Working out can be like going back to school and getting a new degree. There is always something to learn about fitness and your body. You can learn new exercises, routines, stretches and how your body operates. You have your body for life. The more you learn about it the better it will function.

10. Building Your Confidence

You may do things that you thought you could never do. It happened for me. I can now do handstands, cartwheels, traveling rings and even pull ups now. I’m also comfortable to slap on a water ski with my niece and nephew and tear up the water. Set goals and reach them. Learn moves that you thought you could never do. It feels and looks great when you master them.

That’s 10 reason for now. I could actually add 90 more reasons to move and exercise, but I hope these are inspirational enough to get you going and keep you moving.

Stay healthy my friends.
