Steps To Being Super Fit: Let’s Make Super Healthy a lifestyle! Part 1 of 3

-Dixon Troyer, 3 Elements Lifestyle

Do you want to lose weight and become healthier? How about becoming “super fit?”

Anyone can get super fit. Yes, even you! Getting ‘“super fit” is like building a house. You have to lay a solid foundation first, and start adding bricks one at a time to make it sturdy. You don’t want the big bad wolf to come and blow your house down! It’s not hard, you just have to start, be consistent, and make it a part of your lifestyle. Houses that are built properly can last a lifetime. The same goes with you. So let’s build your house solidly. But after it’s built or repaired, let’s maintain it, so it will last a good long time.

I tell everyone who walks into our gym here at 3 Elements Lifestyle that we believe in three elements to achieve super fit health:

Fitness — Move, sweat and get fit!

Nutrition — Eating well and healthy!

Recovery — Resting, sleeping properly, hydrating, stretching, etc.

When you follow each element correctly you will develop functional strength, lose weight, gain muscle, regain your health, and live a healthier, happier life.

Yes, the process will vary from one person to the next, depending on ability, needs, and goals, but the overall principles are the same. So are you ready for the secrets to becoming super fit?

For Part 1 of this blog, let’s talk about Fitness.

Fitness

- You need to move. Run, jump, swim, crawl, bike, jump, walk, dance… Just move! Burn calories, build muscles, build endurance. Moving is key!

-Find a fitness class! There is something about the energy of a class to keep you moving and working harder. And it’s fun! Besides, all you have to do is show up, and the trainer will do the rest of the planning for you.

-Work out 4–5 times a week. Build your muscles and your endurance. Every pound of muscle you add can help burn up to an extra 50 calories per day. so if you pack on 10 pounds of lean muscle, then your body will continue to burn 500 calories daily well after you’ve left the gym!

-Work your entire body. Perfect your push up, build your pull ups. Squat, do sit outs, burpees, jump on a box. The list is endless!

-Keep it short and sweaty — Your workouts should be short, intense, and explosive, instead of spending 2–3 hours at the gym. This way, you’ll be more able to give it your all, which is the best way to fast-track results! Plus, you will also have more time to buy veggies and cook healthy meals!

-Make your workouts functional training. Use your body.

-Set goals and always try to get stronger and improve your cardio.

-Throw out the dumbbells and become BFF’s with a kettlebell. A kettle is a metal ball with a handle. Since your stabilizer muscles have to work harder to wield a weight that isn’t evenly distributed, you burn more calories using kettlebells, thus getting stronger, gaining more body muscle and increasing balance too. Sand bags are great too!

-Build your core! It’s the base for your movements and balance. Strong core gives you more options and opportunities to do more things. If you haven’t become friends with a power wheel, go get one. It’s an amazing tool to build an awesome core!

-Get a trainer if you can’t find a class, or have problems being motivated. A good trainer can get you results quicker.

-Stop driving so much and ride your bike to work, or walk more! Walk more in general.

-Move throughout the day. Don’t get stuck at your desk for hours. Get up and move every hour. Go for a 10 minute walk. Have a push up challenge with your co-workers! Go for a walk after dinner. Go on a hike even if you worked out that day, or a swim. Make it fun!

Let’s get super fit! Set goals and have a plan. Write your goals down in a notebook, on your bathroom mirror, your refrigerator, or put a sticky on your computer. This simple act helps confirm your commitment and serves as an easy and fun reminder to start each day with purpose.

The possibilities for how much you can grow are endless. Make it a lifestyle, then it will be easier!
