M2M Day 252 — Dance in a Month Strategy Plan

This post is a part of Jeff’s 12-month, accelerated learning project called “Month to Master.” For September, he is downloading the ability to complete to pop(dance).

My mind is fried right now, so I had a lot of trouble writing this. This won’t be as detailed as my other plans. However, creating a structure for each project is important. Otherwise, it’s easy to slip up and negotiate the boundaries with myself.

This month’s challenge is popping. Popping has always been fascinating to me. It’s the dance style where I feel as though the dancer adopts non-human, machine-like qualities.

Goal : Create a video of myself freestyle popping for at least one full song.

Why popping?

The beauty of popping is that you can pop to almost anytime of music with a beat. Some songs might be tough, when the beat moves quickly, but popping is an adaptable dance form. You can combine popping with other dance forms by hitting.

Deadline: September 31, 2018

Current State

I’ve taken popping classes a few years ago, so I’m familiar with the basics. The challenge will be to hit hard enough with only one month of practice. Hitting is just flexing your muscle hard enough, if it freezes in place. To get there, I’ll need to utilize every free moment to train my ability to hit.

Final Deliverable — Music Video

Resources

I have a bunch of competing priorities, so I hired a teacher for this month. A teacher will help in that he’ll create the roadmap for me + provide me feedback.

Skill De-Construction

I actually don’t know. I’ll just be following what my teacher tells me.

Learning/Practice Strategy

Sandbox: 24 hour fitness because they have a mirror

Feedback Mechanisms: Teacher + Recording myself + mirror

Daily Learning “Workout”:
