I too am a Bernie supporter. I’m also a number of years older than you. Kind of odd.
Bernie’s message, when you take away media’s propensity to throw out “socialist” constantly, is the true direction America should peusue and can achieve. With that said, I’m also a realist. It’s obvious under the current DNC super-delegates created to weaken McGovern’s ticket that Bernie won’t get the nomination.
Even if Bernie were the nominee there would still be the problem of the down ticket races. Democrats are positioned to very likely take the Senate back but the House won’t flip this cycle. We can make inroads but the job wouldn’t be finished before 2018 at best, and Democrats, as lazy as they are, don’t tend to vote in high numbers in mid-terms which is why we had the T-party insurgence. Since the House controls the purse strings most of what Bernie espouses would never get done… unfortunately. There’s also the power-Democrats themselves who gag at any mention of “socialist agenda” although it is in terms of Nordic style not Latin America, or worse, the way many imply Russian (which is totally ridiculous).
But, I honestly believe that to stay home and not vote is an equally yuuge mistake. Voting is not only a right, it’s an obligation. Exercise it. To not vote out of anger or emotion will translate to a vote for the GOP “presumptive” nominee. I would rather hold my nose in the voting booth than to allow that clown to move into the White House.
Yuuge changes take time and Bernie has started the conversation, the momentum, and the revolution needed. We need to keep the pressure up going forward. And of course, continue to support Sanders until he chooses to exit, and beyond.
