Ancient Greece

Ancient greece was a somewhat peaceful place and had lots of great philosophers. Such as Aristotle, Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, Hippocrates, and many more. So much so though I would probably add another ten minutes of read time to this story listing them. So I’m bringing to you my top eight philosophers in alphabetical order.

Aristotle

1. Who is he and what is he famous for?
Aristotle was a famous philosopher and student of Plato, he was famous for tutoring Alexander the Great

2. When was he born, when did he die?
Aristotle was born in 384 B.C. He died in 322 B.C.

3. Where did he do what he’s most famous for?
Aristotle is known for tutoring Alexander the Great. He did most of his teachings in the Lyceum.

4. why is he important to us today?
Aristotle is important to us today because, He made great discoveries in science, dissecting animals, stalking animals, and earning how animals think and work.

Marcus Aurelius

1. Who is he and what is he famous for?
Marcus Aurelius was a Roman emperor, Philosopher of meditating, and a philosopher of stoicism. He’s best known for his books on stoicism and meditating.

2. When was he born, when did he die?
He was born in 121 A.D. He died in 180 A.D.

3. Where did he do what he’s most famous for?
It’s not for sure but it’s believed he wrote his books in his study, while traveling he would jot down notes in his journal.

4. Why is he important to us today?
Many people believe his works on stoicism and meditation, and live by them.

Epictetus

1. Who is he and what is he famous for?
Epictetus was a prominent greek philosopher on stoicism. He was widely admired by greek and roman writers. The great emperor of rome Marcus Aurelius was taught by him.

2. When was he born, when did he die?
Epictetus was born in 50 A.D. Epictetus died in 120 A.D.

3. Where did he do what he’s most famous for?
He taught people in his school in greece.

4. Why is he important to us today?
He taught people who wrote books and he himself wrote books that we read to this day on stoicism and meditation.

Hippocrates

1. Who is he and what is he famous for?
Hippocrates was a renowned greek doctor of western medicine, he was called the father of western medicine.

2. When was he born, when did he die?
Hippocrates was born in 460 B.C. He died in 370 B.C.

3. Where did he do what he’s most famous for?
Hippocrates studied medicine in his medical school in Kos, Greece.

4. Why is he important to us today?
Many of our medicines were made because of Hippocrates.

Plato

1. Who is he and what is he famous for?
Plato was a student of socrates, and was a very well known philosopher and scientist.

2. When was he born, when did he die?
Plato was born in 427 B.C. He died in in 347 B.C.

3. Where did he do what he’s most famous for?
Plato may have studied,drawn, and wrote in many places; Walking around town jotting notes in a journal, he may have studied at his school, and at his home.

4. Why is he important to us today?
Many people believe in his philosophy’s.

Pythagoras

1. Who is he and what is he famous for?
Pythagoras was a pre-socratic mathematician and philosopher. He is best known for his pythagorean theorem.

2. When was he born, when did he die?
Late sixth century B.C.

3. Where did he do what he’s most famous for?
Pythagoras set up a school in Croton, Italy circa 531 B.C.

4. Why is he important to us today?
Pythagoras is important to us today because of his theorem.

Seneca

1. Who is he and what is he famous for?
Seneca was a famous philosopher, statesman, and dramatist.
He was famous for his philosophy and play’s.

2. When was he born, when did he die?
It’s unsure of when he was born but between 1-5 A.D. He died in 65 A.D.

3. Where did he do what he’s most famous for?
Seneca was best known for his philosophy and the plays he was in he performed all over rome.

4. Why is he important to us today?
Many people believe in his philosophy. Many other people the scripts to his plays.

Socrates

1. Who is he and what is he famous for?
Socrates was the teacher of Xenophon and Plato. Socrates was the most pivotal of all philosophers and the one to push philosophy the most to what it is today. He's most known for his writings, his way of life, and a grand debacle of inspiring ideas into childrens mind's, the parents didn't like that and forced him to go to court. He died of poison hemlock in his drink.

2. When was he born, when did he die?
He was born in 469 B.C. He died in 399 B.C.

3. Where did he do what he’s most famous for?
Socrates did everything in and around Athens.

 4. Why is he important to us today?
Many people follow his way of life, Study him and his time period.
