There’s always going to be massive resistance from the establishment, in whatever forms, to fiery ideas that work. The progressive / “alt-right” alliance isn’t new — as you take pains to point out often, it’s just a very powerful possibility right now, we’ve seen the alt-right manage to turn the GOP inside out for a moment, and we’ve seen Sanders supporters nearly overpower the Democrats. Both establishments seem to have settled back into their original order, but these movements definitely caused wounds. Given that power, I’m not sure it makes sense to focus on defense when you can double down on building alliances instead, thereby we can drive a knife potentially twice as large in again, and deeper, into the established political order. It’s important to have nearly 100% focus on the right battles.

Yes, obviously we progressives don’t agree with the alt-right on nearly anything. So these are absolutely challenging alliances to form. But what are the other options? Partner with Democrats? Where has that gotten us?
