This is an extremely naive and myopic essay. It assumes altruism is an inherent quality in all people. It assumes a whimsical lack of ambition in all people — a desire to better ourselves. It grossly exaggerates the ability of technology to remove the need to work — computers were supposed to do that but instead they just made us work more to make more.

Let’s call this for what it is — you’re advocating communism, pure and simple. You’ve just wrapped it up in nice fluffy postmodern semantics. That’s your prerogative but I can never understand the end game to these arguments. Why will it work with your approach when it’s failed in every other experiment in the world and instead led to tyrrany? What are you *really* after? Maybe ‘The Hunger Games’ isn’t all that far fetched after all, because that’s what you’ll end up with.
