If I lived in Texas, Dr. Jason Westin (TX7) would have my vote.
I live in California — a blue state with a Democratic Governor, a Democratic Attorney General, and two Democratic Senators. 38 of the 53 (72%) Representatives are Democratic.
I live in Sacramento — a blue city with Democratic Mayor, a Democratic State Assembly member, a Democratic State Senator, in a district with a Democratic Congressman.
Blue happens to be my favorite color. Coincidentally (or not?) my alma mater, The University of Michigan, is maize and blue. Oh, and my favorite NFL team, the NY Giants, are known as “Big Blue.”
However, not all states or cities or counties or districts are … well, run by Democrats.
Let’s look at the great state of Texas — mostly red. Republican Governor. Republican Attorney General. Two Republican Senators. 25 of the 36 (69%) Representatives are Republican.
While there are certainly pockets of blue in Houston, the largest city in Texas still leans Republican.
I’m hopeful the state of Texas, and specifically the city of Houston, begins to change from red to blue in 2018. And the best starting point for that color change begins in the 7th district of Texas.
The best person to lead the change in the 7th district of the state of Texas is Dr. Jason Westin.
Jason is not a career politician.
Jason is a doctor. An oncologist, to be exact. He believes clinical research is our best weapon in the fight against cancer.
Jason is a husband. His wife, Shannon, and my wife both completed their OB/GYN residencies at the University of North Carolina nearly a decade ago.
Jason is a father. He has three of the most adorable children in the world. As a father of four of the most adorable children in the world, I can relate. Ha!
Jason is real. He’s authentic. He’s genuine. He’s committed.
Jason is also a Florida Gator, but I don’t hold that against him.
According to his about page, Dr. Westin has spent more than 15 years tackling life and death issues for his patients.
As a doctor, I took an oath: first do no harm. But when career politicians like John Culberson keep trying the same failed partisan prescriptions, our community is worse off than if they’d done nothing at all. I’m getting off the sidelines because I know firsthand what’s at risk for folks who will lose their access to healthcare if Trump and Culberson have their way. That’s why I’m running for Congress and asking for your support.
Jason is asking for your support, both financially (please donate here) and in getting the word out. Donations. Articles. Blog posts. Podcasts. You name it. Please help in any way you can. Related: I’d love the incredible team at Pod Save America to have him on as a guest sometime this Winter or Spring.
Bonus: Jason just released his first campaign video. AMAZING. Watch here or below:
My word/theme for 2018 is ACTION*. This is my first “action” of 2018. Instead of just complaining about Trump and politics and our government, I’m taking action.
{*more on ACTION in a later article}
That’s why I’ve donated to Westin for Congress not once, but twice. That’s why I’m publishing this article.
If I lived in Texas, Dr. Jason Westin would have my vote. However, since I live in California, I’m helping Jason via campaign contributions ($ that helps pay his staff and companies like the one who created the video above). My bet is you also do not live in Texas. If you do, chances are high you don’t live in district 7. However, that does not mean you cannot help Dr. Jason Westin win.
