Well, recent research in behavioural science has settled the debate on rationality of humans . People are irrational.

The term irrational needs to be explained. When one says, people are irrational, it doesn’t mean that all people are irrational at all times. It just means that ‘some’ people ‘can’ be irrational ‘some times’.

Similarly, when we say that voters are irrational, it doesn’t mean that all voters are irrational at all times. It just means that there is a possibility that ‘some’ voters ‘can’ be irrational ‘some times’.

The way behavioural nudges begin with acknowledgement of ‘irrationality’ of humans, we also need to acknowledge the ‘irrationality’ of voters, to move further.
