Netflix adds new movies and series to its platform (almost) every day. Constant updates on ‘what’s new at Netflix’ can make an impression that there are no rules and/or strict schedules. It might look like it’s more or less a random process.

But, wait! Does it make sense?! Is it possible that a company such as Netflix plays on random in regard to uploading new titles? I assume majority would say - no!

If the assumption is that Netflix doesn’t play on random, then — what is the rule?

To offer an answer to the question, I’ve checked the data from Kaggle, namely the ‘Netflix Movies and TV Shows’ dataset. So, let’s see what the data on Netflix says.

Sidenote: the data includes titles added between 2008 up until September 2021. However, according to the data, majority of titles were added in the last 5–6 years. To make the results comparable on a monthly and weekly basis, I didn’t include the year 2021 (except for the first graph) because it’s not finished yet. So, below presented results were based on a 2016–2020 period.

Year Over Year

Before going into more details, let’s quickly check the yearly overview of the number of added titles.
