Rising star rapper, Lil Tecca made his way from high school student, to sound cloud rapper, to chart topping artist in just one year.

Tyler-Justin Anthony Sharpe grew up in Cedarhurst, Long Island right around the corner from the high school he would attend for 3 years before making it big. While at Lawrence High school he would tend to stay in the background before people worldwide knew his name.

No response was received from Lil Tecca

“Before he was famous, no one really spoke to him a lot. He had friends, but he wasn’t popular. Then once he started rapping, everyone was like ‘you’re not going to make it’. No one paid attention to him much” said Sophomore Lawrence Highschool peer Jeni Pomper.

Tecca took some of those words of discouragement to heart, even mentioning them in his music.

“People used to always love to say, ‘oh, you’re never going to make it.’ That’s why all his songs say ‘people used to doubt me’… I feel like he’s definitely subbing us in the songs now,” said Lawrence Highschool senior Alexarose Diamond.

With fame comes change

Fame can change people, especially when it comes so suddenly and for someone as young as Tecca.

“He acted like he was more popular, but no one really cared. When he walked down the halls, he would start singing and he would cut class a lot, but he wouldn’t do that before,” said Pomper.

As much as fame can change those who achieve it, the people who associate with people who get famous can sometimes change too.

How other schools compare

Research proved that Lawrence Highschool isn’t the only school that has witnessed a students growth to fame. 59% of people polled revealed that they also had attended school with someone famous at one time in their life.

When asked how they treated a famous student at their school many of those admitted to not really caring all that much, and treating them the same as they had before.

Some of the students at Lawrence didn’t think any different of Tecca either, “I didn’t really care to stop him or anything,” said Pomper.

In his growing fame Lil Tecca ultimately decided to leave Lawrence Highschool to further his music career.
