I lost my glasses

An insignificant moment of misfortune
has the power to ruin
an otherwise lovely day.

I spent today browsing art galleries
only to find that my glasses had slipped out
from my jacket
to some unknown location
on some unknown street
in Denmark.

and I can’t see without my glasses
and I fly to London on Monday
and my optometrist is eighteen thousand kilometers away
and I can’t afford a new pair anyway
and this is the third pair I’ve lost in as many years
and now I’ve forgotten that I got to see my first Matisse today
and all the inspiration I garnered from the galleries is gone
and all I can think of is how stupid I must be to misplace my 

Life affords only so much joy at a time.
The world is in balance.
