5 Easy Steps To Enroll Medicare Online
If you’re new to Medicare and preparing to retire you need to make some important decisions about your up-coming health care coverage.
Okay, if you don’t enroll in Medicare when you become eligible, you may have to pay the penalty and have delays in your coverage. Here are 5 easy steps to help you gather the information you need to make informed decisions about enrolling Medicare online:
Step 1: Learn about the parts of Medicare!
The different parts cover specific services. Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, Part B covers doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.
Step 2: Find out when you can get Medicare coverage!
There are only certain times when you can enroll. The first time you can join is the 7-month period the three months before, the month of, and the three months following your 65th birthday. If you don’t enroll when you’re first eligible, you might have a Part B late enrollment penalty.
Step 3: Decide if you want Part A & B!
You should enroll in Parts A and B as soon as you become eligible. You have paid Medicare taxes while you worked, so you don’t pay a monthly premium for Part A. With Part B, you do pay a monthly premium. You can delay enrolling in Part B if you work for an employer with 20 or more full-time employees.
Step 4: Choose your coverage!
If you want original Medicare Part A and Part B, you will also want to enroll in your Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage and your Medicare Supplement Plan. Your Medicare supplement plan pays for the Medicare-approved expenses that Parts A and B do not cover.
Step 5: Sign up for Medicare — unless — you get it automatically!
If you’re receiving Social Security benefits, you will automatically get Part A and Part B. You’ll get your Medicare card in the mail about 3 months before your 65th birthday — or — your 25th month of disability. If you don’t get Medicare automatically, you can complete the Medicare enrollment application form online at Medicare.gov.
