Visit These 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites In Kathmandu Valley

We all know that Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal. So, a lot of people are living here. Some people believe that Kathmandu is the most crowded city of Nepal and some also say that the number of the population is increasing day by day due to the capital city of Nepal. Citizens are coming from outsides to get better facilities i.e, education, health, transportation, etc.

In additional, Kathmandu is that city of Nepal, where the public from all around the universe can enjoy their life from visiting many places, sharing their norms and values as well as they can get the rule and regulations of the city. Although there is a huge number of population, they can share their problems and help each other.

Nowadays, most of the foreigners are taking hospitality services due to its natural beauty. Mainly tourist prefers the Thamel area because they get offering facility from luxury to cheap hotels, bars etc. Thamel is also known as a tourist area because of most of the tourist visit here. They go to many places where they felt that they are in heaven. There are a lot of places to sightseen from where you can enjoy the places such as Swayambhunath temple, Changunarayan temple, Bhaktapur durbar square, Patan durbar square, Pasupatinath temple etc.

All the sites listed here are UNESCO world heritage sites from the valley. They are cultural sites that we can visit doing some day tours in Kathmandu .

Swayambhunath

Syambhunath temple is one of the oldest temples which was built by king Manadeva at the 13 century. This temple is located in the middle of the Kathmandu at the top hill. So, the visitors overlook the glory of Kathmandu valley. Most of the visitors believed that it also a temple of monkey. Mainly the visitors visit here to see a panoramic view as well as sleeping Buddha. Mainly the Buddhist people come to worship the Lord Buddha. While visiting the temple we can see the Tibetan monastery, museum and library as well.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Bhaktapur durbar square is one of the best places to sightseen from where the king Malla of Bhaktapur also used to rule over their kingdom. It is located at the current place of Bhaktapur district which lies in the 13km in the east of the Kathmandu. It is regarded as the epitome of Nepali culture, unique arts of wooden and potteries. This city is inhabited by a large number of Newari people where we find their traditional culture and custom etc. Besides, there are lots of glorious places which attract the visitor such as fifty-five windows, golden gate, Nyatapole etc.

Bouddhanath

Bouddha stupa was first built by the Tibetan king which is located about 11km from the centre of Kathmandu. This Stupa is triangular and tied with prayer flags. It covers a large number of area and it is one of the most popular places to visit. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site. Mainly, Buddhist people use to worship there. The main festival of Buddhist is Buddha Purnima so, that there is a big celebration. While celebrating the festival they call Dalai Lama. While visiting the stupa we can find more than 100 monasteries. The stupa is based on Dhyani Buddha, a prayer wheel and a group of people. When Tibetan people came to Nepal, Bouddha stupa attract them to live there. We can find lots of handicraft materials and statue of lord Bouddha. Most of the Buddhist people use to live around that area.

Pashupatinath

Pashupatinath temple is one of the famous places to visit of world cultural heritage. This Temple is made for Hindu people to worship God Shiva. There is a four main gate which is covered by a silver sheet. It stretches both sides of Bagmati River. It is based on bunk roof, four side of the silver golden spike. From India, most of the people visit to worship God Shiva. Mainly there are 492 temples. People celebrate Mahashivaratri and Teej festival at Pashupati. Mainly women take fasting food at Teej for their husband’s long life and happy life. Most people think that people who die in Pashupati temple they are the rebirth as a human being. The death body of people is burning there. At the bank of the river, there is an image, ashram, collection of temple etc. At a certain festival, some people use to give some food to the poor, needy people for the rituals spirit of their family.

Patan Durbar Square

Patan durbar square is one of the oldest cities of Kathmandu valley. It lies in Lalitpur district. Krishna temple with 21 golden pinnacles (Gajur) is considered as the most important temple of Malla art and architecture. There are 21 Bahals and 55 temples. Besides this, there are many other famous temples such as Bhimsen temple, Vishwanath temple and more. This is a city of fine arts so that the meaning of Lalitpur is a city of fine arts.

Here was not stable king ruling so sometimes it would be under Kathmandu and sometimes under Bhaktapur. This city was united in Nepal in the 18th century which was united by King Prithvi Narayan Shaha.

Changunarayan

Changunarayan is a Hindu temple and a cultural UNESCO world heritage site in the valley. This temple is located in the Bhaktapur district which can be visited a couple of drive from Kathmandu. Changunarayan temple is on a hill station which was known as Champak hill. We can visit this place with a day tour combined with Bhaktaur or during Nagarkot Changunarayan day hike.

There was only speaking the language in Nepal before the 4th century and started writing after the 4th century because of this place. There is a stone pillar written by king Manadeva at this place. King Manadeva had written about his and his father’s work during their ruling period.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu durbar square is an ancient royal palace. It is also a UNESCO heritage site in Kathmandu valley. This palace was ruled by several Malla kings as the last Malla king was Jaya Prakash Malla. This place was united by king Prithvi Narayan Shaha from the Gorkha kingdom. After winning Kathmandu, he moved his palace from Gorkha to this place and started to rule from here.

There are lots to see as pagoda temples, palace museums, the living goddess and much more. We can see art and architecture from the 12th century to the 18th century’s buildings in this area. There are several cultural festivals in this place which are celebrating by Newar people.
