I completely see what you are saying. Unfortunately, that is a level of conversation that would be lost on the people I am directing the essay toward. As you can see by the greeting, it is written to poor white people who have been circulating the picture on Facebook. More specifically, it is directed to relatives who have been circulating it. Knowing them as I do, making the point you are trying to make would only get me ridiculed as a “fluffy liberal.” As it is, I am already seen as too sympathetic to “those people.” But my essays are not actually written for generic people. They are written aimed very specifically at people in my life with the hopes of persuading them to see my point.
