Museo del 900

Carlota Alvarez

Passing by the Duomo? Have you noticed the building with the lights that seem ¨pretty cool¨? Have you considered going in? You should! Museo del Novecento offers not only Instagram worthy pictures but also a beautiful view of the Duomo.

Museo del Novecento is located in a prime location, Piazza del Duomo, located off the M1 or M3 metro lines on the ¨Duomo¨ stop. Student tickets only cost 8 euros, a low price compared to other leisure events in Milan.

If you are a modern art aficionado and would like to learn more about Italy’s role in the avant-garde and art in the ¨Novecentos,¨ this is the museum for you. Starting in the early 1900´s, the museum works are arranged chronologically among several floors. The museum features international movements as well as several dedicated halls to famous Italian artists. The museum houses paintings, sculptures, performances, and interactive works from art movements such as futurism, the Novecento movement, kinetic and programmed art, and Italian pop art. At Museo del Novecento, people can view the works of artists such as Giuseppe Pellizza, Picasso, and Klee.º

I enjoyed the areas featuring Italian artists because I am interested in learning about art movements I am unfamiliar with. If you are short on time, I do not recommend going to this museum since viewing the large volume of works here is quite time consuming. I would take into consideration saving around three hours of your day to visit the museum. I did not grab the audio guide tour but I regret the decision. If you are truly interested in the content and context of the pieces, having the audio guide that is available in 5 languages is a must, since I thought the posters explaining each room could have been more profound.

This museum is a MUST since it mixes nice architecture, great views and spots for photos. Most importantly it showcases representative art works from: diverse mediums, artistic movments and renowned world artisits. Making it an all inclusive expirience.

And if you are not convinced here is the museum´s website for further information!

Prada was born in 1913, by Mario Prada. Prada main focus at that time was ready-made travel trunks, bags and luggages. Thanks to their high end quality products and original designs they became the go to brand of aristocrats and people from high society. Later on they become the official supplier for the Italian Royal House. And years later thanks to their business models, good positioning and history the have become one of the brands that control the trends in fashion.

If you´re interested in architecture this museum is definitely a go to. Its outer structure is a combination of old and new modern buildings which make a great contrast and makes them visually attractive.

The inner show rooms where the exhibitions are presented create a phenomenal environment for you to open your mind and enjoy art. If you attend this museum you have to drink a coffee at their cafeteria, it has a vintage style which makes it a great spot for insta pictures.

Another highlight of this museum its the tower in which you´ll be able to have the ideal viewpoint. If you are hungry in the tower you will be able to find a restaurant and a bar which are located in the sixth and seventh floor, its furniture complement its inner design and structure. The menu its fully traditional Italian with a rear selection of wines.

During your visit you should also visit the cinema which from my point of view is one of the areas in the museum that stands out the more. Its design is completely modern and futuristics, the seats are what attract more the eye of its visitors. The color of the seat are intense and appealing in comparison to its surroundings. The surroundings are all presented in black tones which makes it perfect for movie lovers to enjoy the films that the fondazione presents.

In the fondazione you will be able to find diferent kinds of expositions. You´ll find the one´s that are permanent which are four processo grottesco, Dan Flavin at chiesa rosas, atlas and Roberto Gober/Louise Bourgeois installation. The last one you´ll only be able to visit by buying an special admission ticket. So make sure you check fondazione prada web page so that you are aware of which are the current expositions and also learn a little bit more about the permanent so that when you arrive you already have an idea of what to expect and the type of art they are presenting.
