Reduced expectations about your lifespan help focus on core priorities

  1. A person has only ~33k days = ~0,8M hours totally, if counting from 0 to 90 years old.
I calculated the number of days I’ve already lived by now. A scary exercise, but helps rethink what are the several core priorities to focus on, and what are the multiple distractions.
IMHO, it does NOT make sense to be too optimistic about your life expectancy & building plans on top of that.
  2. Yes, the facts & trends are positive:
    - Average human life expectancy grows steadily.
    - A huge revolution is happening in science now at the intersection of Bio / Healthcare / Data / Tech.
    - Longevity industry is growing & attracting investment, top minds as a workforce, attention, etc.
    - Scientific discoveries & forecasts are promising.
  3. BUT: we get a MISLEADING FEELING: “I have a plenty of time” — an EXCUSE to avoid our core priorities & waste precious time on infinite distractions.
That’s a dangerous trap, at least, for me.
Especially knowing that some % of people pass away unexpectedly, while everyone mistakenly believes “I will NOT be among this %”.
  4. Take people in the Middle Ages. The lucky ones, who did NOT die in the childhood, were FORCED to execute all core priorities by their 20s, as NOT many of them could achieve even 30 y.o.
We do NOT differ much from them. We are only pushed less by time limits.
  5. So, IMHO, better to REDUCE the EXPECTATIONS about your own lifespan.
And try to execute your own core priorities as soon as you can (which, I personally was almost NOT doing).
    Ex.:
    - Start a family & have children.
    - Give back to your family members (especially parents), to other people who shaped / influenced / helped you, to your community.
    - Try to spend your time & efforts on smth that will outlast you.
    - Do smth valuable & non-violent to others, meaningful by your standards.
    - Execute smth you could be proud of & speak of with honour later.
    - Etc. (according to your values).
Otherwise, high chances to squander your life on distractions & be late w/ your core priorities.
And that will be regretful & painful.

P.S. If you finally live longer than expected — great: you’ll organise a special party & buy everyone a drink 😆
