Improving roads and driving UX by primary users
Introduction:
Hello, I have some knowledge in UX product design, and I think that a way we are working on virtual applications may be applied to solve our real life problems. For example, safety on roads.
Every day a lot of accidents happen on roads all over the world. People are dying or destroying their cars. Let’s see how we can solve it with modern technologies and smart approach.
Cause:
Drivers are not responsible enough. They ignore rules till accident or death happen.
Situation:
Imagine a situation: you are in a car, driving on a highway with max allowed speed of 100 kph, when somebody cuts you just a few centimeters from your car with crazy speed maybe 180–200kph. It is very dangerous, accident didn’t happen, but could.
What do you do? Beeping, swearing on this bastard, but after 15–30 mins you forget about this issue. But this guy thinks that it’s ok! Maybe tomorrow he will die in terrible accident in one month, one year or in 10 years. Maybe even never, but possibility that it will happen is very high.
Yes we have cops and cameras on roads, but it’s not enough. Still 30K+ death happens every year in US, only deaths, beside of millions of accidents and injuries.
Solution:
Imagine you have small cheap DVR in a car and in the same situation, instead of beeping and swearing you drive to roadside. With special app, you choose this episode and upload it to appropriate category.
This app is connected to Ministry of Transportation, specialist is reviewing this accident. For example it’s not the first and second accident with this car, so he decides to cancel his driving license because of dangerous driving style.
Benefits:
You may think that it’s some kind of snitching, guy that lost his driving license because of you, will think this way 100%. But damn! You just saved his life! His car and maybe some one elses life.
Generally when every responsible citizen will have this app and will use it in the right way, the roads will be much safer than they are now, just because drivers will have to be much more responsible, than they are now.
Alternative way:
Google and maybe other companies are working now on automatic cars without human drivers, but it will not come to our everyday life at least for the next 10 years.
Problems:
I don’t see any way to monetize it. Ads? Premium accounts? Powerups?
No, it’s not a game! It just should make life safer. (but some gamefication may be added, like badges, small prices, halls of fame)
So if it will not make you money who will do it? Croudsurfing, no, it requires government support.
Here is a general idea, I hope one day it will come to life.
