Indeed — and I’ve been beginning to think about the possibility of inverting this paradigm via permanent expat status: why not “outsource ourselves” to cheaper nations where the cost of living is lower, the pace of life is more sane, and the heavily moralized Social Darwinism less intense? Why not become a citizen elsewhere and perform a “tax inversion” like American companies are so fond of doing to avoid contributions to the public coffers, whilst managing to reap all the financial benefits created by a long history (though now in the process of aggressive corrosion) of U.S. civic development?
