Last week, I talked with Dominican Summer League (DSL) star, Sauryn Lao over Instagram direct messages. Pictured above, is a scene from the DSL Dodgers’ ticket-punching victory over the DSL Twins, sending them to the Final Series. Lao can be seen in the photo, sporting the number twenty-three on the back of his jersey.

Sauryn Lao is an 18 year old first baseman of the DSL Dodgers, who made his debut in the league in 2016. Lao is native to the Dominican Republic, so English isn’t his first language. With that being said, I took the liberty of correcting any grammatical errors made during the interview I had with him, to help viewers understand Lao’s answers a little better. Below, I have quotation of the questioned asked, and the answers given.

“What’s been your favorite part about playing ball in the past few years, since joining the Dodgers organization?”

“Winning the season in the Dominican Republic.”

“When comparing statistics been your 2016 and 2017 campaigns, it’s clear that you improved all around. What do you think helped better your numbers the most?”

“I improved a lot in my batting mechanics. I learned to read the curveball, and not to swing at bad pitches.”

According to the stats found on MiLB’s webpage about the DSL Dodgers, Sauryn Lao led the team in HR, RBI, SB, and R. Lao also sported a batting average over the .300 throughout the league-winning season. He played a huge role in the team’s triumph, and has the potential to shine in The Show one day.
