Spring has sprung! BST is here. The evenings are light and confusing my body clock. But… it means outdoor living is at the forefront of my creative planning. I am positively itching to get out in our new garden, if I say so myself the modern cottage garden we nurtured at Creepy was really beautiful and I can’t wait to start here as it’s practically a blank canvas. However, due to the heavy clay soil here we have a severe waterlogging problem so until that is sorted… no channeling Alan and Monty for me. *sigh*.

The waiting time has given me lots of time to properly plan what we need from our outdoor space and how to best achieve that however, and to appreciate the oodles of amazing garden projects out there. Here’s my top 10 from my Green Fingers Pinterest Board that you sooo need to try this weekend.

1. UPCYCLED PALLET PLANTERS

Vertical pallet planters like this one from Creative Homemaking are both practical and add a quirky colour pop and character. This is part of our pallet decking project plan and I cannot wait! Click the link for not 1 but 2 great tutorials on how to make yours. Awesome.

2. PAINTED UPCYCLED PALLET BENCH

Here’s another great idea for upcycling pallets, a technicolour bench. No instructions for this one over at chiccham.blogspot.co.uk but that’s part of the fun no? Get your creativity flowing! The possibilities are endless.

3. NEON CINDER BLOCK HERB GARDEN

Here’s another that will definitely be getting DIY’ed as soon as I can get out there. These simple yet stunning Cinder Block planters are the work of Kate Myhre at Modernly Wed and add a burst of colour and a stylish industrial twist. See the full tutorial here.

4. UPCYCLED CAN PLANTERS

Great minds think alike! Here’s one we already do, both inside and outside the house … simply take care when opening your can, wash it out, stab a hole in the bottom and you have instant modern crisp looking planters. Christie on Flickr here used cable ties to suspend hers… love it!

5. BOLD COLOUR POP WALL

Nothing breathes new life into any space like a bold pop of colour. If you have a brick wall or fence, forget about those traditional drak greens and browns and go for a bright colour like this gorgeous purple feature wall which adds style and dimension to this patio garden at brabournefarm.blogspot.co.uk

6. SUCCULENT TABLE

Strictly speaking, this tutorial is for a pallet table but in theory could easily be applied to any table with the help of a trough and a jigsaw… Bohemian chic outdoor living at it’s best. Check out inspired Far Out Flora for more details.

7. LOG LOUNGER

Now this… this is rather smart… Homemade Modern made this amazingly stylish tree trunk log lounger for under $30 and in just 6 hours. Serious SKILLS with a Z. See how they did it, and how you can do it too, here.

8. SOLAR CHANDELIER

This is both beautiful and genius! Using an old chandelier and solar lights you can add a spot of decadence to your outdoor living areas. Check out the full amazingly creative and yet simple tutorial by Leah at leahglass.blogspot.co.uk here. This one is top of the list!

9. GLASS MARBLE FENCE PANELS

Got a drill? Got some marbles? Excellent. Now you too can have stunning decorative fence panels like this!! Thankyou to the clever clogs over at Garden Drama for this easy but dramatically effective tutorial.

10. SCRAP YARN AND SUET BIRD FEEDER

This is such a simple but lovely idea, by Fiber Farm. You know all those scraps of wool you either throw away or store forever with the intention of one-day felting? Gather them up and place in a bird feeder and help the birds line their nests in style this spring.
