MAKE YOUR OWN DINOSAUR UMBRELLA DINO-BROLLY
Rawr! Here’s how to make your very own Dino-Brolly… Jurassic Park eat your heart out! April is renowned for it’s crazy weather and with the current heatwave the UK is experiencing (loves it by the way!) this year has been no different. Grey skies one minute, hail the next and blistering sun an hour later. Mother Nature has her PMS this time of year but it’s a great excuse to accessorize with a cute umbrella!
My pretty floral favourite was unceremoniously run over in the driveway by Mr B a month or so ago after falling from the door pocket and I just loved the pretty vintage florals too much to toss it in the bin. The injuries it sustained were purely to the ball shaped handle at the base and so I decided to give it a new lease of life with a new, slightly out-there alternative handle. This little guy:
Here’s how I did it so you can do it too! This is such a simple DIY and just so fun!
You will need:
Rubber dinosaur toy figure
Superglue or similar
Small flathead screwdriver or borer tool
First you need to remove the original handle of your brolly, this might unscrew like you can see with mine or you will need to break it to remove it (TIP: Your own PMS and a hammer would be good for this job ;) ) Next, grab your ferocious little guy and line him up to get the right angle for inserting the stem of the umbrella into as above. STEP #2:
Take your small flathead screwdriver or borer, say sorry to little Dino and (carefully) stab a hole in his back where you want to insert the umbrella’s stem. Continue to make these little holes in a circle the same size as the base of your stem.
Check the fit is nice and snug and apply glue around the base of your brolly’s stem, allow it to get just a tad tacky and then insert into the hole you made in step #2. Hold still with slight pressure whilst the glue sets.
Once the glue has set and is holding sturdy and snug, seal the edges with more glue and leave to set for 1 hour or longer if you have the time.
And you’re done!
