I would argue it is none of the axes mentioned above, that one normally associates with the Seed/A/B/C.. system, but that it is the maturity of the startup.

My feeling is you would expect companies in the following stages:

  • Seed: pre launch, or only very few test customers/users
  • Series A: initial product-market-fit, but little proof of scalability
  • Series B: knowing how to scale / starting to scale (reach/revenue)
  • Series C: scaling further
