This is certainly true. I have been teaching myself software programming for the past 4–5 months. When I tell people about it, the general responses I get are negative. “I could never do that.” “I’m not technologically inclined.” “I’m too old.” I’m 42 and have found the tech community to be very welcoming and supportive. Just by going to a few local meetups I have met some great people who are willing to share their time and resources to help me learn. There are lots of roles within programming that people with different talents can find a niche in. Everyone doesn’t have to be a hardcore hacker to contribute. people with graphic design or art backgrounds can contribute to graphic interface design for example.
