An excellent and thought-provoking post.
It might be uncomfortable to think of it like this but, just sending your kids to school to some extent is an abdication of responsibility, it means that you don’t really have to think about the questions that you pose here.
The education system assumes responsibility for your kids. You put them in this system and trust that it (and they) will do the job- it’s becoming more and more clear that this is not nearly enough.
It’s our job as parents to prepare our children to be ready for adulthood, to equip them with the skills they need to survive and thrive (a good education is only part of this). How can we do this job properly if we haven’t considered what sort of world they will become adults in?
The truth is as you say, our kids will face more competition as adults, than any other previous generation, having the same CV as everybody else means that they are going to find life very tough.
We have written about this topic here and included some ideas and practical tips for parents, so they can begin to teach their kids the skills they will need to stand out.
We’d love to hear what you think.
Keep up the great work.
