The fact that tech companies yield tremendous gatekeeping power is unquestionable and looking into ways to prevent that trend from escalating even further is likely something that would be in the interest of the American public, as well as consumers from all over the world. However, claiming that these companies are a bigger or even comparable threat to the open Internet than firms that provide the very Internet connection used to access all of those other services (and enjoy similar or vaster monopolies) is frivolous at best and malicious at worst in my opinion.
You raise some excellent points but do so in an attempt to reinforce a pretense that the market powers yielded by someone like Google and someone like Verizon are part of the same problem.
I think a fit analogy would be that you’re calling for regulation of cars while being fine with and clearing the way for road construction companies to bully both carmakers and consumers, then suggesting automakers will somehow be at fault once certain vehicle models will only be allowed to go 10mph on certain roads because they won’t be willing to pay extra for the privilege.
