Not everyone should go to college, but everyone should learn how to learn. Students are lead to believe in pre-school years and throughout high school and college that the path to being educated is only achievable through College. Trade schools, coding bootcamps, and the military are viewed as silly pursuits for the “losers” of education. Meanwhile, these are some of the last places where students can get direct experience and learning in the real world outside of a classroom.
Higher education is the process where individuals commit to a path that ensures they specialize in one thing. They become helpless in every other area of their life and are forced to try and work with other “Educated” types who have been crippled in different ways.
Education has no way to define or create a useful definition of intelligence. One simple example is that the ability to write a funny caption for three cartoons was shown to be more effective at predicting life success than SAT scores. The most important part of what society and education calls, “intelligence” is imagination. As currently inflicted, education teaches children to neglect and destroy their imaginations.
