This year we are committed to upgrading the free options in our Carista free tools. The reasons are that we already sell the best priced adapter on the market. If you’ve got better free tools and access to our partner apps, you’re more likely to keep Carista in your glove-box. The option is always there to go for the premium tools when you need them. It makes good business sense as well as offering good customer service.

Q: is it free?

A: If you’re asking if the software is free, the answer is that part of the functionality is free and part of it is paid.

Everything that’s manufacturer-specific in the app is paid (e.g. airbag/ABS diagnostics, all customizations, service tools). The free stuff is the standard OBD2 functionality, e.g. checking and resetting your “check engine” light. For more info, see http://www.caristaapp.com

Q: What happens after free month trial

A: When you “purchase” the program, you purchase a year, with monthly charges automatically applied. They give you the first month for free. So, if you do nothing, you will get charged through whichever app service you use each month.

If you want to ONLY use the free month, you need to cancel your order a few days before the free month has ended, otherwise you will be charged.

Check Fault Codes

In the free section you have access to basic OBD2 fault codes.

e.g. checking and resetting your “check engine” light.

In the paid version: everything that’s manufacturer-specific in the app is paid (e.g. airbag/ABS diagnostics, all customizations, service tools).

Emissions testing

Every vehicle with OBD2 (What is OBD2?) runs continuous tests on different monitors and records the results in the car’s memory. There are a total of 11 system tests and each vehicle has a different set, based on the year of production, make and model.

Once a test is completed, it is recorded as “Ready” and if the computer is still gathering information it is marked as “Not-Ready” i.e. “Incomplete”. The Emission Test tool in the Carista app shows the available tests for your vehicle and their current status.

Partner Apps
