Why start now?
Reasons for beginning a fitness routine in the middle of March.
Technically it is not the middle of March yet. Getting close though. This is March 12th and the first day of Spring is on the 20th if I’m not mistaken. I’m not really beginning………..more like starting where I keep leaving off. I have taken part in a couple fitness and health challenges per Celes from Personal Excellence. I’d advice anyone to go check out all the wonderful life tips she shares with her readers/viewers and how she helps everyone become a better person.
With this being said, I’m sure there are many fitness and health collections on here with much more experience than I can offer. What I can offer are tips I have picked up along the way. I have never really struggled with weight but a couple times in my life. I am 37 years old and recently put on a medication that has caused me to gain weight. At the present I am 160 lbs. Standing at 5'5, that weight is not healthy. My goal is to be around 130 lbs but to do it in a healthy way. I also have two gorgeous daughters who need to be introduced to a healthy lifestyle besides just at school.
The advice I can offer today is about water intake. The 8 glass a day rule doesn’t apply to everyone. I learned this from Celes. Here is the best way I can explain and if you want to follow up on Personal Excellence then that would be great. For water intake, you would take your weight and divide by 2 to begin with. So 160/2 = 80 Next I want to take the number and multiply it by 80%. So 80 x 80% = 64. I need to drink 64 oz of water a day.
If I explained that wrong, feel free to correct me. This was the best way I figured it out per Celes’ instructions. So, I then figured 8 oz of water is = to 1 cup. So 64 oz would be 8 cups of water for me a day. When I was doing the challenge on Personal Excellence, I am looking over my paper work, and my body weight then divided by 2 equaled 60. 60 x 80% = 48. So, at this time in my life, the water intake I needed daily was 6 cups.
If I went by my journal I kept, then the first day of fitness and health would be to begin drinking the amount of water intake daily that my body needs. I dislike water very much. However, flavored water isn’t too bad and if I kept water by my desk or took water with me when I went somewhere, I found that drinking 6 cups really wasn’t bad. I’m not going to get discouraged that I do need the entire 8 cups of water right now. After my work-out for today, water does quench my thirst. So, I’m getting started on that right away. I also would advise anyone to keep a fitness journal so that you can keep track of how much exercise your doing each day, water intake, goals, and calories. It seems like everyone makes these trackers so complicated that it takes the fun out of getting fit. I may try to come up with a simple fitness tracker in a few days.
