Nathan Chan asked me a great question which led to this post:

“If you had a chance to ask someone you admire 10 questions, what would you ask?”

I’m imagining a scene where I got to interview Warren Buffet or Charlie Munger for an hour.

Here are my 10 questions:

Outside of your family, which 5 people do you admire or follow the most?

Outside of your family, which 5 people do you spend the most time with? (in real life or online)

What’s the most unpopular opinion that you hold strongly?

What cause(s) do you donate or give the most to?

Which 3 trends do you most closely follow?

What principles do you live by?

How do you do research on a subject? What tools do you use to organize your thoughts?

What is the meaning of your life? How & when did you realize it?

What are your daily habits or routines?

What advice would you give your 17-year-old self?

Assume every question has a followup of why? That’s the often the valuable part of the question.

Personal next steps?

  1. Get famous
  2. Ask those questions

j/k (sort of). For me, most of the value in doing this exercise is in the process of thinking through the questions. In doing so, it highlights and reinforces what I value the most as a person right now.

Reader next steps:

  1. Which questions resonate with you the most?
  2. What would your 10 questions be?
  3. Did you find this thought exercise useful? Please let me know!
